Important interview questions for transformer

 TRANSFORMER:

1.what is a transformer?

The transformer is a static machine used for transforming power from one circuit to another without changing frquency.

Transformer operates on ac supply. The transformer working on the principle of an mutual induction.

It doesn't have rotating or moving parts so transformer is a static machine.

2.what is the working principle of transformer?

It is based on the faraday's law of electro magnetic induction.

Mutual induction between two or more winding is responsible for transformation action in an electrical transformer.

According to the faraday's law: rate of change of flux linkage with respect to time is directly proportional to the induced emf in the conductor or coil.

3.what are the main parts of transformer?

Primary winding.

Magnetic core.

Secondary winding.

4.what are the accessories of a transformer?

Bucholz relay.

Silica gel breather of transformer.

Oil surge relay.

Radiator of transformer.

Magnetic coil gauge.

LV and HV winding temperature indicator.

Oil temperature indicator.

Pressure release valve.

5.What are the types of connection of 3 phase transformers?

Star-delta transformer.

Delta-star transformer.

Star-star transformer.

Delta-delta transformer.

Star-zigzag transformer.

Delta-zigzag transformer.

6.what are the condition for parallel operation of transformer?

When two or more transformers are run in parallel, they must satisfy the following conditions.

Same voltage ratio of transformer.

Same percentage impedance.

Same polarity.

Same phase sequence.

7.What is meant by ideal transformer?

It is an imaginary transformer which does not have any loss on it.

It means no core loss, copper loss and any other loss.

Efficiency is 100%

8.what are the losses in transformer?

Two electrical losses.

1.core loss or iron loss.

      - Hysterisis loss.

      - Eddy current loss.

2.copper loss.

9.what are the types of transformer?

Step up & step down transformer.

Single phase & three phase transformer.

Electrical power transformer, Distribution transformer & Instrument transformer.

Two winding transformer & auto transformer.

Outdoor & Indoor transformer

Oil cooled & dry type transformer.

How to do Installation and termination of Electrical cables(HV, MV, LV)?

How to do Installation and Termination of Electrical cables(HV, MV, LV) : 1.Material : All wires and cables to be examined prior to installation. No wire or cable with bruised, cut or abraded insulation, or wire that does not pass a continuity test shall be used. 2.Tools and equipment : Truck, crane, cable drum jacks, cable drum shaft, cable socks, cable rollers, cable cutter, hydraulic crimping tools, hand crimping tools, scaffolding with wheels, ladders, torque wrench, box spanner set, ring spanner set, open end spanner set, screw driver, hack saw frame, measuring tape, drilling machines, holesaw cutter, cutting pliers.  3.Preparation : Cables shall be identified with regard to type, size, length etc. And shall be inspected for any physical damage. The cable shall be free from any damages and the ends sealed with caps to prevent the ingress of water during transportation or storage.  4.Installation : All cable shall be megger tested prior to pulling cable.  Prior to com...

Star Delta starter working principles, control circuit, components, advantages and disadvantages

Star delta starter working principle theory There are many different starting methods are used to start a three-phase induction motor like Star delta starter. One of them, popular and cheapest is a Direct online starter. But its use limited for smaller HP motor, to start higher rating 3 phase motors star-delta starter is used. Star-delta starter is useful where all six terminals of the motor are accessible.  we will discuss star delta starter working principle with help of power and control diagram, Theory, connection wiring diagram, parts like contactor, mcb, fuses, a timer circuit, overload relay. Star-Delta starter is the simplest starting method for reducing the inrush starting current of Induction motor. The starter can be used with all squirrel-cage induction motors that are delta-connected for normal operation.  The reduction of the high motor current causes a reduction of the starting torque of the motor. Star-delta starting is therefore especially suitable for...

How to select the cable for a particular application

Selecting cable The following are some points you should consider when selecting cable for a particular application: 1. Current carrying capacity Each component or appliance connected to a circuit will have a current draw associated with its operation and it is important that the cable supplying power to these is capable of carrying the normally expected current, plus a margin of safety. If it is not capable then it is likely to result in the cable becoming hot and potentially catching fire. Although fuses are used in the circuit to protect the cable, the cable itself should be of an adequate rating to prevent this over-heating occurring under normal circumstances. You might find it useful to read our Electrical Circuit Basics article for using the equation I = P/V where the following example is given: If we wanted to wire up a light that we know has a power rating of 50W, then using I = P/V the current draw would be 50W/12V = 4.17A.   This tells you that you could use ...
